BC: Soarin' Warren Buckley Spends Big Bucks

Author: Jordan Bateman 2013/05/21

Part 2 in a 11-part blog series looking at questionable expenses of several government employees, as revealed by CTF Freedom of Information requests.

As president and CEO of PavCo, Warren Buckley made $513,593 in 2011/12, and expenses another $27,393. That made him the 13th highest government employee in all of British Columbia.

So we asked for his expenses – after all, $27,393 is the actual wage of many people in B.C. Here’s the full package. Look at these airfare numbers, and tell me: should we rename this guy Soarin’ Warren Buckley?

- Buckley expensed $627.43 for a February airfare to Palm Springs (p. 1). Could have flown Allegiant for a third of the price.

- In July, he flew to Phoenix, charging taxpayers $1,131.41 just in airfare (p.5).

- He spent $1,265.33 of your money to fly to San Francisco in June (p. 6).

- A Vancouver-New York-Chicago trip cost $3,197.32 in airfare (p. 7).

- Vancouver to Los Angeles in May? That’s another $1,133 airfare (p. 8).

- A Helijet from Vancouver to Victoria to meet with the minister October 25? $490.56 (p. 13).

Soarin’ Warren, indeed!

Taxpayers also bought him a $728.22 iPad 2, and paid $35 in monthly “connectivity” fees (p. 18).
